A long, long time ago, before Ket & Brask, and before I started drawing adult art, I did a few infrequent drawings. If I recall, the drawings were mostly triggered by dreams or random ideas that I wanted to get out into visual form (which still happens to this date). Otherwise, drawing wasn't a hobby of mine. Many of the drawings have been lost or destroyed, and most of the surviving drawings were actually level designs for fictional video games. However, there is one piece of art I created which is actually an original character design, and today -- exactly ten years after that time -- I'm unveiling it. But wait! I've also created an updated rendition. =D

Myriad Dewcrest is a swordsman well versed in physical combat. No backstory is known other than some tragic or life-altering event happening to him as a young boy. His species' name is "rephian", which is simply a portmanteau of "reptile" and "amphibian". The name "Dewcrest" was inspired by "dewlap" and "crest" which are parts of iguana anatomy.

The original inspiration for Myriad came in a dream. A short character that looked similar to a charmander dressed in a black cloak stood in a cozy house that may have been in the middle of a downpour. He is confronted by larger characters, possibly adults of his species, who tell him some inaudible news that puts a forlorn expression on his face.

After the dream, I made a sketch (that I no longer have), and then mulled the ideas until I created the Y2K drawing I have posted here. At this point I had envisioned Myriad as a mage. Afterwards, I got some ideas that Myriad should be a swordsman. Now, if you're familiar with my chracters, you can probably tell I ended up taking that cape (and any magical ability) and passing it along to Brask. It made sense, but also created more work for a future updated rendition. Back in 2006, the video game Oblivion came along, and featured a race of creatures known as argonians, who happened to be similar to my ideas for rephians. Naturally, lizardmen will be lizardmen, but that didn't stop me from creating an argonian male character named Myriad. ;}

That covers the history. For the updated rendition I had no idea where to start. Yesterday I just began freely sketching and a couple hours later I had something decent. I spent more time today to fix and add some features. This is a good starting point for future elaboration, should the demand arise. Speaking of demand, anyone interested in a nude version? =}

Heh, you know me, I'm going to hound you for a nude version all the time now that you've asked. Interesting stuff on the species though, I thought he was just a fatty chameleon.

I don't believe there was any chameleon influence here. However, I used to own two green iguanas as pets, so that inspired me some.

As for the nude version, you'll just have to give me ideas for what his unclothed bits look like. ;}

Thanks for commenting, as always. =}
