Name: Sonic the Hedgehog Japanese: ソニック・ザ・ヘッジホッグ Species: Hedgehog Sex: Male Age: 15 Height: 100cm (3.3ft) Weight: 35kg (77lbs) Abilities: Running speed that exceeds Mach 1, spin attack Weaknesses: Impatience, he can't swim Likes: Music, fast things Dislikes: Tears, slow things
Resident hero of the
planet, with speed and attitude to spare. Whether he's racing against
gravity on
towering skyscrapers or just chilling on the beach, he'll usually be
found having fun. Never one to get snagged on regrets
of the past, Sonic's eyes are set firmly on the horizon, and he's got
the speed it takes to get him there. He's always
around to put a kink into the world conquest schemes of his long-time
enemy, Dr. Eggman. Utilizing his mad speed and
spinning abilities, Sonic becomes a blazing, unstoppable pinball of doom
and always manages to out-maneuver Eggman's
mechanical monstrosities.
While he's usually found
alone, Sonic is very close friends with Miles "Tails" Prower, a young
fox who
idolizes him. He's (usually) on pretty good terms with his rival,
Knuckles the Echidna, and will stop at nothing to avoid an
encounter with Amy Rose, his self-proclaimed girlfriend.
Miscellaneous facts about
Sonic:
Even in the Japanese dialogue versions
of each game, Sonic has a penchant for sprinkling English phrases into
his speech.
(Ie, "Let's get 'em!", "That was tight!", "Piece of cake!", etc.)
By drawing on the positive forces of the seven Chaos Emeralds,
Sonic is able to transform into Super Sonic, enhancing all
of his abilities as long as he's got Rings to feed the urge. (In Sonic
3 & Knuckles, collecting all 7 Chaos Emeralds
plus all 7 Super Emeralds gave Sonic the ability to transform into Hyper
Sonic.)
He's got an antique biplane called the Tornado, although Tails
has more or less assumed ownership of the old machine.
(The original Tornado made its final flight in Sonic Adventure.
After it was shot down by the Egg Carrier, Tails
created a superior replacement, the Tornado II.)
He owns a red convertible called the Cyclone, which was only
used in the Chaos GP races of Sonic Drift and
Sonic Drift 2.
Surprisingly, he doesn't care for racing.
He is a DJ as a secret hobby.

1991
Sonic the Hedgehog
Sonic's original look, designed by Naoto Ohshima and illustrated by
Akira Watanabe. The ratio of Sonic's head to his
height is 1:2.
1992
Sonic the Hedgehog 2
Sonic as redesigned by Yasushi Yamaguchi, once again illustrated by
Akira Watanabe. The ratio of Sonic's head to his
height is now 1:2.5. His legs are longer and narrower.
1993
Sonic CD
Redesigned by Kazuyuki Hoshino. Not much change at all. The sleeves
of Sonic's gloves hang a bit more loosely, and
he's traded in the smirk for a grimace.
1994
Sonic the Hedgehog 3
Redesigned by Takashi Yuda. Sonic's spines have been rearranged so
that there's a clear distinction between the
spines on his head and the ones on his back. Also, an extra ring has
been added to the sleeve of his gloves.
1998
Sonic Adventure
Redesigned and illustrated by Yuji Uekawa. The ratio of Sonic's head
to his height is now 1:3, and his spines have
been drastically enlongated. A green iris has been added to each eye,
and his trademark smirk is replaced with a
toothy grin. His blue coloring is a few shades darker, while the
bottom of his shoes now sport metal plating.
2001
Sonic Adventure 2
Once again designed and illustrated by Yuji Uekawa. Sonic is mostly
unchanged from Sonic Adventure, except that now
he sports a custom pair of Soap shoes, to coincide with his new ability
to grind.
2003
Sonic Heroes
Sonic's blue coloring is brighter and shinier. His eyelids are now
blue, a curious change introduced in Sonic
Adventure DX.
